Anna's
99 Cent Movie Bin

Ladies and gentlemen step right up and take a look into this bin.. what do you see? That's right! Three documentaries! But these aren't just any movies on the life and times of the praying mantis! No! These are all documentaries, but only one is real.. Lets see if you can figure out which one it is.

Documentaries.... or Mockumentaries?

First up is the movie Zelig. Based in the 1920's, this documentary follows the life of a human chameleon that changes his nationality and race according to his setting. He goes from Greek, to Russian, to a Jew by just walking into a restaurant, Synagogue or church. After getting a lot of press, he becomes a cult figure and a female psychologist decides to try and cure him. The movie follows their love story and his progress as he tries to heal himself.

Next in the movie bin is Roger and Me. Ex-journalist Michael Moore follows the closing of the General Motors plant in Flint, Michigan in the late 1980's. The film revolves around Moore's attempts to gain an interview, (like crashing a stockholder's meeting), with GM president Roger Smith, the man responsible for the layoffs. While tracking Smith, Moore also takes out time to interview a few of the 33-thousand people who lost their jobs as well as document the path of the city fathers as they attempt to regain control of the town which built the plant.

And last, but certainly not least, is This Is Spinal Tap. Filmmaker Rob Reiner follows England loudest and most obnoxious rock band as they tour the United States and go from being superstars to the ending up as the opening act of a puppet show. This "rockumentary" coined the phrase 'It's such a fine line between clever and stupid' and has a cult following almost as large as the Rocky Horror crowd.

That's it for me this month. Oh... and as to which documentary was real? Well, 33,000 people in Flint, Michigan will be happy to tell you. Until next time, don't go changin.'
